Rajasthan Tours Travel » Grand Rail Tours » Heritage on Wheels
A
journey by train brings back the romance of travel, it reminds one of the
time of sepia toned photographs and the now-crumbly yellowed pages of
diaries written a long time ago, it takes one back to a time when trains
were the chief mode of travel and an integral part of epic adventures .
And there is no better way to see Rajasthan than by rail especially since
the most fascinating trains have been prepared with all the opulence and
luxuries befitting kings and queens. The Heritage on Wheels offers a truly
priceless experience in the land of the Maharajas.
Traversing through the more unexplored and exotic destinations of
Rajasthan it conveniently connects Jaipur, Shekhawati and Bikaner. Since
it is not a commercial route there are no chances of delay. The journey
offers a glimpse of the countryside that most visitors do not get to
experience, as your train chugs and wheezes its way into the desert
heartland you'll be lulled into a relaxed state by its rhythmic motion,
outside the window the countryside will show a spread of dunes and fields,
silhouettes of camels, children flying kits, rows of tall stately women
carrying terecotta pots filled with water on their heads, groups of men
sitting under the acacia and puffing on biris, the leaf wrapped smokes
common in India. This Heritage on Wheels luxury train will take you into
the heart of the Thar desert a heretofore remote territory, classic in its
beauty and unspoilt tradition.
This four day trip has an extremely well planned itinerary. The Heritage
on Wheels train journey begins at Jaipur, where the guests board the
train. After a warm welcome guests are shown around the saloons and the
restaurants and treated to a sumptuous dinner while the train is already
on route to Bikaner. Next morning after a regal breakfast, a sightseeing
trip takes the guests in a comfortable airconditioned vehicle to the to
the red and pink sandstone fort. Then its back to the train to journey
onwards stopping at Haat and then Gajner. Lunch is followed by a Camel
Safari and after all the excitement a high tea at the Lal Garh Palace
helps one unwind and swap stories. Nightfall brings one back to the
luxurious comforts of the heritage for another lip smacking dinner. The
next day the train traverses through the regions of Shekhawati. Tal
Chappar, Mandawa and Nawalgarh are the most popular, here every street,
house and wall has the stamp of an artist's imagination in paint. Frescoes
and murals decorate the walls, on these walls is a powerful and silent
narration of history. Detailed cenotaphs and havelis make this region an
architectural marvel. Abundant in art Shekhawati is also known as the
'open art gallery' of Rajasthan and is a must-see for art afficionadoes.
The journey culminates on the fourth day when the Heritage brings you back
to the Jaipur.
The heritage on wheels train is every bit as luxurious as its name
suggests, each of its 14 gleaming carriages has been furnished keeping in
mind the opulent tastes of royalty, heritage ambience and decor. On each
trip it can accomodate 104 people, each of its saloons can accomodate
eight guests in four bedrooms with two bathrooms on sharing basis. The two
restaurants - Maharaja and Maharani respectively, have opulently draped
curtains, exquisitely crafted lights and table settings that would do any
five star restaurant proud. Here chefs serve up a choice of delectable
India, Continental and even Chinese cuisines. The relaxing and inviting
ambience of the well stocked bar cum lounge is where you could burrow in a
book, write a record of all that you saw or converse with co-passangers.
An extremely amicable and highly capable staff looks after and caters to
your every whim and fancy. In the heritage you get to be the maharaja who
travelled with all the style, grandeur and luxury befitting his royal
stature.
