Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel
The magnificent Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of
India, the largest private residence in the world it is set amidst 26
acres of lush gardens and is the finest example of art deco and
indo-colonial architecture. Designed by renowned Edwardian architect Henry
Lanchester, this golden-yellow sandstone monument was conceived on the
grandest possible scale of that time. It took 15 years to construct this
347-room palace with its majestic 105-foot high cupola. The palace with
all its embellishments has been beautifully maintained to this date, in
fact now it even houses a museum in which many of the royal accouterments
have been placed.
